It was in August of 1920 that a humble beginning was made with just three students in a rented building with the blessings of Maharshi Karve and the the financial support of the family of Shri Lalshankar Umiyashankar. since 1922 the college has been managed by the ‘Gujarat Stree Kelavani Mandal’ and the late Prime Minister Shri Morarji Desai laid the foundation for re-desingned campus in 1960.

Shri Lalshankar Umiyashankar (SLU) Arts and Harivadan and Padmaben (H.&P.) Thakore Commerce College for Women is recognised college under UGC section 2 (f) and 12 (B) since 17th June, 1972. Since its inception, the college has built the educational foundations and launched the careers of thousands of young girls and continues to strive towards the empowerment of women.
